Ludwig snare · Inspired by the Air Jordan 7 sole
Vice President of Innovation Special Projects at Nike. Designer of the Air Jordan III through XV, the Air Max 1, and the self-lacing Mag from Back to the Future II. Featured in Netflix’s Abstract: The Art of Design. Widely regarded as one of the most influential industrial designers of the past half-century.
The brief. A custom Ludwig snare with a finish inspired by the sole design of the Air Jordan 7. The colors painted on the drum are an exact Oregon Ducks pantone match — a tribute to Hatfield’s Oregon roots. Ludwig had been searching for someone to execute the project for three years before contracting HandShake to do the work.
Snare delivered in person to Tinker Hatfield in Bend, Oregon.
Inspiration · Air Jordan 7 OG ‘Hare’ sole
Designed by Tinker Hatfield, 1992. The Air Jordan 7 OG ‘Hare’ launched as one of the silhouette’s original colorways and was immortalized by the early-‘90s ‘Hare Jordan’ TV ad starring MJ and Bugs Bunny. Hatfield drew the sole’s bold colorblocked geometry from West African tribal art — Afro-pop motifs translated into a hard-edged sneaker language. Light Silver nubuck upper with white leather overlays, True Red hits on the Jumpman and midsole, multi-color zigzag on the neoprene tongue. The first Air Jordan to drop the visible Air-Sole window, and the shoe MJ wore with the original Dream Team in Barcelona.
